(HRID) is a non-profit organization of certified and non-certified interpreters, Deaf and hearing consumers, American Sign Language (ASL) students, teachers, counselors, and other interested professionals. HRID was established in 1971, and became an affiliate chapter of the national Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. (RID) in 1976. HRID supports those requesting ASL/English interpretation, oral and/or signed transliteration, and tactile interpretation. HRID provides information upon request to the public about working with interpreters and the rights of consumers who are Deaf, hard of hearing or deaf-blind. There are many state affiliate chapters of RID, each supporting the goal of facilitating communication between hearing and deaf people. There are many reasons why one would consider becoming part an interpreter. We hope our web site, answers some our your questions about our profession. We invite you to visit us or attend an HRID meeting or community event featuring interpreters. Our members are more than happy to answer any questions you may have about HRID and how you can join. The next General Membership meeting is on Saturday, April 8, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Kapiolani Community College, Mokihana Building, Room 101 (change in location). The minutes of the February 25, 2006 meeting are posted. Please print out a copy and bring to the meeting to approve. We will have a short meeting followed by a workshop on "Understanding the Miranda Warning" by Martin Hiraga. CEUs will be awarded for certified interpreters.
